Lahore Underground!
Today’s picture of the day. Or night, should I say? Aamer, my mate, took this picture just before the Fajr. He’d been eyeing this woman for some time now; caught her off guard today! Thankfully borrowed for lahore blog. And yes, he suggested the title too! *wink*
Lahore, as I know, has become the biggest center/supplier of churs in the country. I’d been told by a Pathan driver some time back that now even FATA imports churs from Lahore. Ulti ganga, I assume. And one of the biggest adda of such activities is Shah Jamal’s Shrine where even Police stand guard to such feloniess. I witnessed chursi’s at Madhu Lal Hussain’s Shrine myself on the Urs this year, sitting on the graves and doing.. well, you can stimulate your imagination!
Please pardun my ignorance and lack of understanding the language but what is a chur??
Thanks.
From a language-challenged Yank.

this is a very worrying situation indeed ?
Jim, churs is a type of local drug.. something a bit different but from same family like marijuana, heroin.
ps: i used to goto UET and areas around it during my college days.. Singh Pura for example..which is one of the biggest adda of these unfortunate/forgotten people. Drug addiction is the worst thing that a human being can ever do to him/herself. Misery. The family suffers the most!
excellent capture!
I’m confused…I know hashish is hash and afeem is opium…so could churs be…pot?
hash and churs are same-
this lady is not addicted to any drug- I’m sorry if the title of this photos made you think like this.
umm.. if u have seen the buds of those plants.. they cut them from sides at night and throughout the night a thick blackish syrip (like a fat mosquito’s blood :D) pours out and sticks to the skin on the outside of bud.. that syrip is opium or afeem .. its an art really n requires gr8 care.. cut lagana n then collecting that syrip
churs is a hand-made creamy thing, as aamer rightly pointed out is same as hash but a refined product..ppl mix certain things in it like tobocco n a few other things that i have no clue about ..n it’s a bit stronger .. take a trip around UET n u ‘ll find ppl making it at night in naala’s n small dark pulli’s
Thanks for the info and an interesting photo.
On a more broader note…I plan to travel to Lahore and Islamabad in several weeks. Is it difficult for Westerners, especially from the US, to film with a video camera or to take photographs in public?
Your site has been very inspirational for picture taking but I don’t wish to offend anyone by taking unsolicited photos.
Welcome Jim!
No, filming in public places is no problem. Atleast, in Lahore. In Islamabad; people are reserve and may frown at cameras so you have to rely on structures only :)

Good luck with your venture!
