About a German-Afghan…

After doing M.Sc in Mathematics from the United States, Ahmed Ebrahimzada returned to his native Afghanistan. When the Russians attacked his country, Mr. Ebrahimzada decided to flee fearing that his American background may be a threat to him and his family. Today, Mr. Ahmed Ebrahimzada runs an Import/Export company based in Hamburg, Germany. Apart from running his very successful business that deals with the food commodities marketed to millions of Afghans, Persians and Pakistanis living in Europe, he still hasn’t forgotten his roots. His wife is Persian and working as a Radiologist in Hamburg.

I happened to meet Mr. Ebrahimzada while he was in Lahore for business last week. It did not come as a surprise to me when he appreciated the develoment made by Pakistani economy in the last few years. He was being more than appreciative of the cleanliness of Pakistani cities as compared to Amritsar or even Delhi in India. In addition, he could tell that he didn’t see very very poor people in Pakistan as compared to who he saw while he was in India.

When I asked him about his visits to any recreational place in Lahore, his reply was none except repetitive visits to Iqbal’s shrine. He has been twice to Allama Iqbal’s shrine and has stayed there for a good few hours. Later, It was revealed to me that he admires Iqbal like anything. Iqbal’s Persian poetry has made him a very popular figure in Persian speaking world. And, this was proved again with Mr. Ebrahimzada’s confession of considering Iqbal as his spiritual Murshid…
