Letter from an Expat
Words from a Lahori across the pond.
” I wish I was in Lahore right now. The stories I am hearing about people volunteering and personally taking off with trucks etc are very inspiring. Most of us expats can only donate money and not actively participate- it’s like passive participation but every dollar counts. We are in a unique position to contribute and we should. The professional community of Pakistanis i.e doctors, bankers, consultants etc. make sizeable incomes and it is up to us to do as much as we can to help. It’s essential that everyone pitches in at this moment.
The firm I work for is matching contributions by its employees dollar for dollar. Businesses are in a unique position to contribute with the vast amount of resources they have, monetary and physical. Therefore, if you are reading this and are in a position to lobby for such contributions at your own work place (whether you’re Pakistani or not or work abroad or in Pakistan), I strongly encourage you to do so. These donations provide tax exemptions so most businesses donate openly to charities. Remember, even a dollar can help feed a whole family for a couple of days. Thank you. “
