Logistic Messes
Aamer Ahmed Khan, writing for the BBC reports that while supplies are flowing into the northern region like nobody’s business, the logistics of distribution are going haywire. Most roads up north aren’t meant for trucks and lorries, and the ones that well-meaning people have dispatched are causing huge traffic jams that are impeding ambulances. I don’t know what remedy to suggest other that instead of sending trucks directly to sites, send them to organisations that have a clear framework of distribution in mind like NGOs or better yet, first get in touch with people working exclusively on coordinating relief efforts like the Bali Memorial Help Line and the Post-hazard Emergency Response and Immediate Logistics Supply or PERILS- e-mail this address for details: a.reginald@gmail.com or visit their site for details on how you can volunteer.
