‘Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow’ (Fleetwood Mac)
The quake has changed all our lives. It will never be the same again. What we feel, and do, and don’t do…what we think and say…it has all changed. We allowed ourselves to become apathetic to such a degree that nothing made a difference to us anymore. We were able to spend our money as we wished without feeling responsible for the notes leaving our hands. I am all for spending money. Even now, I think we must continue to spend on consumer goods because the last thing we need is for our economy to go into a slump where several thousand more become jobless. But while doing so, we must differentiate between giving two lakh rupees to an imported dancer at a wedding, and spreading out those two lakhs on goods or services that provide sustenance to a number of people. When we spend money wisely, it does as much good as charity. And when we continue to circle it amongst ourselves, all it does is stay out of the poor man’s pocket.
We cant restore the feelings , emotions & sentiments of the victims but the Government is taking key steps to reconstruct the affected areas. InshaAllah under the dynamic leadership of General Musharraf , we will come out of it successfully.
