20th International Book Fair – Lahore
20th International book fair in Lahore (Expo center, Fortress Stadium) will be closed on March 07. If you still haven’t visited, there is still another day to go. The good thing about this book fair is that you find so many different books stalls under one roof. The organizers are very cooperative and stalls are willing to give OK discounts. Oh and there were a lot of little kids, school children when I went there yesterday which is always nice to see.
However, books are still very expansive for my liking, specially if you are making a serious attempt to encourage reading. I don’t think there is much difference in price if you buy a book from any of major books shops in Lahore on a regular day. You can’t expect many people to buy 1000+ books and most of the good books are around that price or higher. I still think they can cut the prices IF they want to. But anyways, I guess things will improve if we have such book fairs on regular basis. So not bad for a start.
If you buy a book published by Indian publishers, you have to pay extra money. They convert Indian price to Pakistani rupees which means you end up paying more since Indian currency is strong.
