Garbage dump in front of Minar-i-Pakistan

This photograph was published in Daily Times last week. Its about a huge and disgusting garbage dump right in front of Minar-i-Pakistan, Lahore’s one of the most important landmark. How can Lahore tolerate this?

This is nothing, if we can tolerate Musharraf (and army running the country), we can tolerate anything.

all of us talk about garbage and all the other things but no one has the courage to actually goto minar-i-pakistan and remove it! would you? that garbage is there because we think its ‘others’ job to clean it up and we have right to pass comments.

Cameo Iccoca: if you dont have guts to go out and clean that garbage then musharraf wont do it either. lets not blame musharraf for everything. its a lame excuse.

Well put Saima…I am also tired of people complaining about garbage and dirty roads and streets all the time and they are the same people who stand in their windows and throw garbage down in the street because in the streets its somebody else’s job to clean it up. “Safai nisf imaan hai—-lekin sirf apnay ghar tak”(Cleanliness is half of the faith—but only for my own house)

Just wait a minute. Lets hold our Lahori emotions.
You really want someone to go and pick this up. Look at the picture. How? Be realistic.
The fact is that it **IS** someone elses job to pick this up. Someone **IS** paid for doing exactly that. Someone **IS NOT** doing their job.
Why is it wrong for us not to make that someone do their job (LMC and Mayor)
I am not sure if this is Musharraf’s problem or not. But it is Lahore’s problem and this self-righteousness of saying we shoudl do it ourselves does not make sense. NO we shodul NOT. We shoudl make those whose job it is to do this, to do their job. That is what good citizenship is about.

Saima bibi, that’s precisely the point, if I leave my job and start doing somebody else’s job, none of the two things will be done right.
(If your politicians are not doing a good job that does not mean you put an army general there.)

    What a load of shit..literally.

We might still love Lahore but apparently the municipality there doesn’t give a shit either !

Ah fuck it..let is stay there…enhances the view of the landmark. What is Lahore without a steaming pile of hot shit and garbage.

what an attitude, but again, it was expected to hear such thing, that its ‘somone else’ job, i wonder if you find crap outside your front door, will you clean it or ask ‘someone else’ to do the job?

next thing i’ll hear, “ok mr., then why don’t you do it?”. its always ‘someone else’ or ‘why not you’ attitude.

IMHO, the idea of this blog should be spread info, if you can to the right folks, instead of posting “oh-i-love-my-car” kinda crap posts.

Lets look at this rationally. Minar i Pakistan, the tourist site generates loads of garbage. Where else is it going to go–in a country without daily garbage pickup, but off to the side of the site as far away from the tower as possible?

Secondly, if we don’t keep our city beautiful and clean, nobody will love it. Strewing garbage around is a cause of “loss of faith” in any country, not a result of it.

i’ll be damned! The garbage in the pic doesn’t seem to be left by tourists, this crap load looks more like a septic tank!

What the fuck does a steaming pile of garbage have to do with politics? Its the people who are not doing thier fucking work or perhaps those who are handed the responsibility are slack bastards. Thats why I am proud to be a Pakistani. You can not do anything in civil service and still be paid and drink all the tea you can.

  16. Saima (unregistered) on July 26th, 2006 @ 4:15 pm

Dr. Shamshad: there is no need to use abusive language unless you are one of those cheap attention seekers? and Iccoca: you are just one of theose who will never do anything but talking!

I don’t know what this whole issue has to do with politics or Mush (who i think is a piece of sh!t. who thinks there is significant decrease in poverty in pakistan and who gives out mobile phone examples to show economic progress)?

All i am trying to convey is instead of complaining and whining (which we are very good at), just a few of us can go there and get this garbage removed. just 3,4 or 5 of us and a truck or may be just visiting LMC office and make them do their jobif 20 people go there i can assure you they will have no other choice but to do their job. No point in talking about whose job is this. obviously they didn’t do their job honestly and thats why garbage is there so whats the solution.

This has got everything to do with politics. Mr. Musharraf (and army) has set a wrong precedent in this country where you have military government, which is not accountable to anybody.

When your government is not accountable, how can you expect the guy (or district government) whose job it is to clean that garbage dump to be accountable?

I fail to understand how this garbage dump bothers everybody and the garbage dump (the nastiest bunch of politicians, who have no integrity) sitting in our parliament (again thanks to Mush) does not bother anybody

i agree. change comes from the top and if a country has currupt rulers like Mush then these kind of things will happen. Sadly, I don’t see any future for Pakistan if things continue like this. These people get away with billions of rupees fraud (stock exchange, steel mill, sugar crises and so many other cases) then how can you expect a LMC worker to do his job?
