This is the first time that students from within the institution have risen against the hard-line actions of IJT and its supporters. While speaking at a press conference on Monday, the students blamed IJT for the scare and insecurity they feel at the institution as well as hostel premises. They said that they are threatened and afraid of IJT’s female activitists who bar them even from celebrating birthday functions.

IJT’s activitists had broken into the premise where a musical evening was to be held by students of the Pharmacy Department on Saturday. About 70 boys destroyed the crockery, multimedia equipment worth hundreds of thousand rupees, damaged the premises while also beating and injuring students, a guard and a lecturer.

The Punjab University Administration has lodged a formal FIR related to the incident with the Police and submitted a report to the Vice Chancellor.

When I was studying in PU, the university decided to conduct debate competetions among departments. Now everybody knows that Jamiat itself is quite fond of debate competetions but at the same time they didnt want the “administration” to conduct any activity on campus by themselve. They wanted everything to be held under Jamiat umbrela to keep their hold firm on the university life. So they opposed the debate competetions being held across the campus. Mind you that the topics were quite typical like iqbal ka shaheen, ittehad-e-millat-e-islami, etc. Nothing controvercial to make one think that they might be offended by the subject being debated. Infact apart from the university banners instead of jamiat ones, the functions could very well be like I have seen in F.C. College organized by jamiat in the past.
So during one of these functions, the jamiat attacked , they were well prepared, they cut the strings which held the tents so that it fell on the ground on top of students, they took away the speakers, beat up students including girls, and after that the whole debate thing stopped forever. What a shame that PU even did not have debating activity and called itself a university.
But ofcourse this was all before 9/11 and it was not a news. Nobody reported it or at least it didnt get attention of anybody at all. People just went back to their classes as their was no hope of ever confronting somebody with a beared. Nobody in the world at that time gave a damn what happened in Pakistan, and hence the establishment was just all too happy in their allience with mullahs . Any liberal forces had already long been made irrelavant and jihad around the world was the only progress Pakistanis looked forward to.

The incident also tells us its not about music or Islam at all. Its about a groups wish to control others. At least in case of IJT this is surely the case.

( I feel the waderas and the political mullahs know more of socialogy than the academics just by instict, and recognise even the slightest thing which could be detrimental to their hold on the society, and they are not ready to give away an inch)

I find the behavour of IJT rediclious. In my view that group should be banned and not more allowed. What they do have nothing with Islam or religion to do, what they do is only terrorizing the people, nothing else. Such people should be not supported in any community, Specially not on universities. I hope that there will be any solutions against them. I am happy that the womans from the PU had a demonstration against IJT.
To all against IJT and who demonstrated against them, please keep it up. All people with a clear and good mind are behind u. I support u in anyway

It is very courageous of Pharmacy students to raise a voice againts the IJT extremism and violence. This is the first drop, which should be turned into a tide if civil society has to reclaim lost grounds to extremism. Today’s planned march aginst the Talibanization of the country in major cities will be one of such step. Please participate in this march to show the support for peace, tolerance and inclusiveness in the society.

We come here along with our all biasness. I want to ask which is the better activity Book fair or musical night. Why he stopped Bookfair & allow Musical Night. Is Abrar ul haq- a singer is a person to invited in versity in presence of teachers & girls about ishq o ashqi

VC PU wants to convert versity into NCA.

He has his own liberal agenda.

    * VC PU has army background
    * Governar Punjab has army backgroung
    * Federal Monister of Education has army backgroung
    * President of Pakistan has army backgroung

Are we living in army state or in democratic world or all civilians doesn’t know any thing about education, do whole Punjab have any educationalist to be VC PU?
