my cousin lives in those houses for professors in PU. she has an empty lot behind her house. and there she grows stuff like kadoo, and matar, and karailay and your usual suspects like dhaniya and what not. it’s pretty awesome. i know when i used to be young my khala helped me grow some coriander, and it was really cool to see little seedlings pop up in a matter of days or so. the soil of Lahore is excellent when it comes to agriculture…all thanks to Ravi flooding us once in a while ;)

Gardening itself is such a soothing exercise, its good for both mental and physical health. We used to have veges and fruits including mangoes, lemon, guava, many others. Had lots of chillies :p, aubergines(eggplant), tomatoes, lady fingers, zucchini(tori), colocassia (arvi), chinese lemons, coriander, mint, and many other different veges in different times. I used to go to Juma Bazar to buy “peneri” once in a while, growing different flowers was my passion. Tried to have a Money Plant :) grew, which never happened.

Its a joy to have a garden, even if i am not taking care of it.

Whatever you do, just don’t plant chili peppers!!! I’ve heard they cause rifts among family members!

We had this one-kanal empty plot converted into a vegetable-garden until the owners downed to build up a house!

miss those fresh delights… :(
