Our very own celebrity!

Our dear Momekh was caught by WIRED’s Jeff Koyen on the eve of Basant and seems like they had a good talk. Some of momekh’s points are worthy of a reading and now it feels like we have our very own celebrity here!

Mr Cod(iye)

Does anyone remember that ‘ganja papi‘ played by Tariq Amin in Mr Fraudiye video of Awaz? I would like you to stay with me on this and spare a few neurons. Imagine you go in to check ‘em out, buy fish, go home, open it up and find instead it’s a chicken burger. Okay fine, it’s white meat too but I beg to differ. A friend mentions that whenever you forget to check thing while buying in Lahore, it’s always wrong stuff. How different they are if they’re selling the same thing as other fast foods and why should I choose it when I venture out next time? I wonder.

Think of attendants dressed as sailors selling chicken and pretending to be selling fish! Who knows when they take off their hats, they might be ‘ganjas‘ as well!

Mr. Codiye…

Awam Ki Awaz – Don’t Act; only be Heard

CNBC%20Awam%20Ki%20Awaz.jpg

This particular billboard on the Fortress Stadium crossing attracted my attention due to the heading that it carried. I’ve not watched ‘Awam Ki Awaz’ in particular, however, I have seen similar similar programmes run by other private TV channels.

Most of the times, the discussed issues are pollution, electricity & water shortages, corruption, transportation woes and other such problems that require more individual than Government’s efforts to be solved. People easily criticize WAPDA but never act against their neighbours involved in electricity-theft. It’s just one example.

My question is, how strong is media-coverage-for-a-cause in Pakistan?

And, more importantly, Do the people who ‘make their voices heard’ realize if they themselves are responsible for the ills that they speak against on such programmes? And is, just, making your voice heard enough?

Mani on ‘Al-Fazal Cafe, Link Road’

Mani tells us about his visit to this newly opened Cafe on Model Town, Link Road:

“Mom..! should I sing humpty dumpty sat on a wall…?”, asked a child from his mother sitting in the car, when he heard the announcement, “Any child who will sing us a song or any other poem will be awarded a special gift hamper!”.

Yeah! its a new attraction for people and especially for the children on Model Town Link Road. “Kaavish Band” has set up a small sound system in front of “Zainab Tower” to publicize the newly opened “Al-Fazal Cafe” in the tower.

“We have been hired by Al-Fazal Cafe to promote and publicize the cafe through a singing activity involving public.” said Ali, the singer and the team leader of Kaavish Band. They have focused the children and are providing the gift of discount meal cards to the participants.

The band has no album yet but Ali claimed that their is an upcoming song titled “Saajna” which would be released soon. It started its performance with the opening of the cafe on 23rd March and is scheduled to perform for about 2 to 3 months.

Whether they’ve succeeded in publicizing the cafe or not, but one thing is for sure that they have succeeded in providing a moment of entertainment to the children and to some extent to their parents.

Jolted!

I was attending a lecture at the university this morning when I felt the ground jolting. The idea of an earthquake was immediately shrugged off by me for I attributed it to lack of sleep and the boring nature of the subject.

Later, we discovered that it Was an Earthquake measuring at least 6.2 near Peshawar and Islamabad. Our fellows at IMB also did report it.

More details will follow, keep checking…

Izhar-e-Ishq: Jashn e Eid Milad un Nabbi

Two blind men walk past a shop in the Liberty Market while reciting the famous Na’at, ‘Shah-e-Madina’ on the event of Jashn-e-Eid-Milad-un-Nabbi (SAW).

It’s our Holy Prophet (SAW)’s birthday; Eid Mubarak to everyone, everywhere in the world!

Twinkle twinkle all the night… lol

I took this picture through my window last night, just after they decorated the streets in my area with lights (Actually, I love the word Qumqumay… hehe). Imagine sleeping in a room of such big glass windows decorated from two sides with these lights. Been lovely. Thought I would share with you!

Condemning mockery of Judicial System.. before it’s too late

There’s been some positive activism against the ‘mockery’ of Judicial System through the hands of the General Busharraf at one of blogs here: http://proud-pakistani.com/

They’ve also got a banner to brace your blog against the Evil. Same strategy you can adopt offline by tying a White Band on your arm in protest, if you feel like it.

Since the hearing is on 3rd (just one day left) and the very blog asks you to sign an e-petition against this sickening stunt of our dear General, it’s fair to take a few seconds off your browsing and sign this petition:

To: The President of Pakistan

I, the hereunder signed, a citizen of Pakistan, wish and do hereby petition the President of Pakistan, to do as follows:

1. That the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, be reinstated
2. That the Chief Justice of Pakistan be released forthwith from house arrest
3. That all his inalienable rights (including the right to liberty) be restored forthwith
4. That the hearing of any reference be done in accordance with the law and in an open fair and transparent manner and that at any and all such hearings the media and other impartial observers be permitted to attend
5. That the Supreme Judicial Council be re-constituted with fair and impartial members

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Please go ahead and sign it here.

It’s gettin’ hot in here, but don’t take em off yaar

Lahore’s weather is as unpredictable as our Cricket team on a good day, but the heat has arrived, ladies and gentlemen, it has arrived. It comes with its own offerings of course, with the wind picking up and cooling off the mercury today. But all in all, it’s getting hot in here.
