‘mein aap seyaapa paa bethi..’

Two buffaloes got stuck in a drain, near the Punjab University’s southern underpass, on Monday at about 17:00 hrs. The cattle were grazing the lush green grass when two of them fell in this drain while trying to drink the water.

At first, it seemed quite funny to me… but sensing the tension of the owners (may be), I realized their helplessness.

Jinnah (The Movie) – was it a “revolution”?

There have been some discussions on the movie revolutions on LMB. Some suggested Khuda Ke Liye being the revolution in the Pakistani Movie Industry. While others termed Sargam as a milestone. One referred about Zinda Laash terming it a rebellion which pushed a bunch of people to make a cult out of that dead cow :)

How about Jinnah (The Movie). Jinnah was a movie which was indeed a big change to the Pakistani Movie Industry. But being most of its work was not/by Pakistani(s).

The director himself was an Indian Born Briton. Jamil Dehlavi is British film director/producer. He was born in Calcutta, India to an Indian father and French mother. Out of the cast of numerous Foreign artiste: James Fox, Maria Aitken, Shashi Kapoor, Richard Lintern, Robert Ashby, Indira Varma, Sam Dastor, Roger Brierley, Rowena Cooper, …

Lee-2.jpg … James Curran, Vernon Dobtcheff, Michael Elwyn, Ian Gelder, Christopher Godwin, John Grillo, John Nettleton, David Quilter, David Sterne, Marc Zuber only Shireen Shah, Shakeel, Vaneeza Ahmed, Talat Hussain, Khayyam Sarhadi were a few that belong to our Nation. Christopher (Frank Carandini) Lee, being a good fit was actually from Great Britain as well. In contrast, KKL is basically bringing up most of the Pakistani Talent and Work with ‘some’ outside help. While Jinnah, I believe was significantly a foreign effort with ‘some’ domestic help.

Lahoris being major movie watchers market in Pakistan. What do you say: Can Jinnah actually be termed as a Pakistani movie which was a revolution to Pakistani Movie Industry in its kind? If no, why not. If yes, bring it on! Speak your thoughts.

Potter Mania – muggle bookstores out of stock!

I doubt a lost novel by Shakespeare with a cover by Michelangelo could generate this much excitement.
Tibor Fischer – Telegraph

The magic is at last here. J.K.Rowling strikes back with the last book, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, in her enchanting series of magical novels loved by the young and the old alike.

Eyewitnesses share the news of Muggle invasion at all major bookstores in town where stacks of it were put on the front displays.

It’s only been a day and almost all of them have run out of stock. The book, itself was over-booked and many people who were expecting to get it delivered on the first day were disappointed due to the overwhelming demand. People at a bookshop, Jahangir Sons, in Johar Town, were excited to see the book making sales records at their store.

BBC reports on how the book is flying off shelves across the world while BBC arts correspondent David Sillito, updates us on the crazy fans who gathered for the first catches at Waterstone’s Piccadilly in central London.

In one of the very first online reviews, Greig Watson, again at BBC News happily declares that the Final Potter does not disappoint.

Words from the best reviews:

“Rowling has done her damnedest to round up events and minor characters from all the earlier books” THE GUARDIAN – John Mullan

“As Hermione reveals the arrangements she has made to give her parents new identities, and even Ron contemplates the sacrifices to be made, it becomes clear that this is to be no boarding-school book in disguise. They are dropping out of Hogwarts in earnest, and there will be no Quidditch, no pumpkin juice and no Blast-Ended Skrewts.”
THE TIMES – Alice Fordham

“The final showdown between Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived, and his arch-enemy Lord Voldemort, He Who Must Not Be Named, is a classic good-versus-evil tale on a par with Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy.”
THE SUN – Anne Jones

The book has been published by Bloomsbury in the UK, Scholastic in the US while Paradise Books is the only distributor in Pakistan.

The book is selling like hot seekh-kebabs at:

- Variety Books, Liberty Market

- Anees Books, Main Market ,Gulberg

- Iqbal Book Depot, Main Market, Gulberg

- Ferozsons, The Mall/Qaddafi Stadium/Defence

- Staples, Garden Town

You can get your original hard cover Bloomsbury copy for Rs.1,595.

Dash-

Last week, Dash- (the brand) opened its new outlet at Moulana Shaukat Ali Road. The outlet is in place where there was a departmental store named ‘Value Mart‘. It is situated right beside the ‘Chaman Ice-Cream‘ in C-Block, Faisal Town, Lahore.

Chaman at Maulana Shaukat Ali Road..

If you are a Lahori, you know about the Chaman Ice-Cream at the Mall Road, Lahore.

But, for the readers who don’t know about it let me tell you that ‘Chaman Ice-Cream’ is the most famous ice-cream parlor in Lahore. Whoever visits Lahore; definitely pays a visit to it and it’s a place where (especially at night) you don’t find space to place your foot. If you get your ice-cream early, you are considered lucky enough.

But, here is a good news for those, who live in Lahore and wanted to have the same taste near their area. Now they have a new branch of the ‘Chaman Ice-Cream Parlor‘ at Moulana Shaukat Ali road, C-Block, Faisal Town, Lahore.

The new branch is up for quite a few days and is running successfully. Or, I must say that it’s a big hit for the owners because the same rush is found here; and at night, don’t even think of it. (I had a very bad experience with my friends)

The only thing which turned me down was their furnishing and interior decoration. It’s quite dull and needs a lot improvement (in my opinion).

Do pay a visit to satisfy those taste buds of yours, right in your neighborhood. ;-)

Ravi or Chenab..?

Ravi Restaurant‘ at Moulana Shaukat Ali Road is a big name in quality food and, being economical and tasty, has been a favorite choice for the big eaters. Earlier, it was only the restaurant but then they started their own new product ‘Ravi Pizza‘ which was not a big success but still it is running.

http://lahore.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/07/DSC00746_filtered-thumb.jpg

Now, following the success of Ravi restaurant a new restaurant ‘Chenab Restaurant‘ has been opened, just opposite to the Ravi Restaurant.
