Coke Azadi

Coca-Cola has always been on the forefront in bringing up cool ideas, themes and jingles for its ultra-hip brand and the products it labels. Be it the ‘Coca-Cola Enjoy’ basant theme or the current, refreshing ‘Khaa Lay, Pei Lay, Jee Lay’ campaign; they have always put colors, celebration and youth in focus.

They did the same with the much celebrated ‘Independence Day’ event. Although, there were not any advertisement campaign as such, however these flashy billboards were put up at selected spots in the city including this one at Centre Point.

PepsiCo may have a better market share, however, it has so far been unable to personify fun, excitement and party mode in its image…

The New Mujra?

Mujra is an urdu term.
The term itself is vulgar enough for me.
I am not proclaiming self-rightousness. I just saw one. As broadcast on Geo TV.
ILux Style Awards has them new Mujras, their evolved form.

The ‘art’ form of Mujra, as our ‘artist’ Nargis calls it, has slowly but surely evolved.

Seeing Veena Malik, Resham, etc perform some seriously ‘hipp’ numbers has convinced me to be able to comment on this: The Mujra has evolved to what I saw at Lux Style Awards. And as with evolution, natural selection if you may, has shown the Jhankaar-mixed songs the door, giving way to the more upbeat, remixed type songs. The remixed songs invariably has rap in them, and they are using words like Nigger in their raps! Now, apart from the fact that the N word is a bad word to use in itself, it also doesn’t make sense for a PAKISTANI song to have this word!! Hello, wake up song writers, rappers, composers blah blah. Oh by the way, they still are keeping the camera-focusing-on-thrusting-pelvis bit though. (as broadcast on GeoTV).

We are what we choose to accept and choose not to accept. I know I don’t accept this as a viewable form of entertainment representing our country and nation. What do you guys say? And please, no flaming…

Dubai’s tallest man – is a Lahori!

The Daily Times reports that Muhammad Malik Khan, a former actor and wrestler from Lahore and now a security guard at a supermarket in Dubai, may be the emirate’s tallest resident.

Khan, 41 years of age, is 7 feet and 9 inches tall. He left his home in Lahoreto fight on the professional wrestling circuit in Japan for six years. He fought as the “Raja Lion” in more than 3,000 bouts, winning two belts and a huge trophy after beating Jeet Singh, the “Indian Tiger”, according to the newspaper.

“We had to eat 30 eggs for breakfast and half a kilo of uncooked minced mutton every day. I did not enjoy it but then got used to it,” – he was quoted as saying. :-|

Can you believe it?! Uncooked! :-|

As an actor, he has worked in 25 Lollywood movies, including International Lutera and Sawaal, and even in an American film, Final Fight (also titled Blood Fight and Sportfight).

“I am the only one with abnormal height among my seven siblings. I know I do not look like normal people, but that doesn’t bother me any longer. The extra attention and interest that once annoyed me now makes me feel extraordinary.”

The purchasing manager at the supermarket Khan works at, said shoplifters usually confessed quickly when they saw Khan. :D

They couldn’t look more different – but Mohammad Malik Khan and Jack Gurung are both amazing people size-wise.

They are thought to be Dubai’s tallest and shortest people.

Alif Laila

Alif Laila is a children’s library situated in a beautiful small park near Punjab Tikka House, in Main Market.

They are a project of Save the Children, UK. They go to different schools to issue books and there is minimal membership fee.

Trend of joining a library and reading books is becoming extinct especially in the presence of Cartoon Netwok.

Take kids in your family to the library and hopefully you will find out our version of Harry Potter, Daastan-E-Ameer Hamza (?).

When I’m fiddling the mic while he’s operating (hey!!)

You waited this long, now stop debating
Cause I’m back, I’m on the news and articulating
I know that you got a job Ms. Bhutto
but your husband’s 10 percent is complicating
So the N.A.B. won’t let me be

They try to shut me down on P.T.V.
But it feels so empty, without me

LMB Condemns Censorship of WordPress.com by Turkey

Lahore Metblog joins hands with Alvi-e Team of Karachi Metblog and Don’t Block the Blog Movement (DBTB) to condemn the blocking of WordPress based blogs by Turkish Government.

We believe, that this will only favour the miscommunication and mishandling of the information. Whereas, responsible dialogs are the only way of settling the conflicts among Turkish Government, Adnan Oktar (aka Harun Yahya) and the WordPress Bloggers.

“Thy Pious Ones” can return – CJP

‘نواز، شہباز شریف وطن واپس آسکتے ہیں’

A larger bench of 7 judges decided in favour of Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharifs to allow return Pakistan and declared their exile illegal. This news will hit to all the Lahoris as they have always been the biggest supporters of PML-N in the past. No matter if we distributed Sweets when Musharraf came but now (hungry and ready for another change), Lahoris are looking forward to their return.

Shahbaz is trying to give impression that Pervez Musharraf would have got them killed but it was Saudi Arabia that intervened and saved them, But they fail to give any tenable reason why they remained quiet for so many years and why they showed cowardice and fled Pakistan and why they did not face the charges against them in the courts of Pakistan earlier. Certain elements on the basis of ethnic considerations are trying to give impression that Sharif Brothers have gained popularity in Pakistan. They remained quiet for almost seven years.

Whereas, Musharraf’s supporters say:

The decision shows General Musharraf has
given us free judiciary and free media - that was not available in Nawaz Sharif era. He was a stooge of General Zia – the military dictator and still called by PPPians as Baquiat of Zia.

Now lets see what Musharaf and his team come back to media with..?

I personally wonder why these cases were not rested before Musharraf targetted CJP. These cases have been pending for long in past but how they are eventually getting finalised in few hours time so quickly?

Is it just because CJP has taken it up personally and now doing everything musharraf didn’t want to?

Then I believe Musharraf should start saying the opposite to get the work done his way! LOL. As it’s more looking like a personal war than war between Judiciary and Army as such.

Lets hear your point of views too?

Masjid Wazir Khan

I know a friend who runs a rather neat photography studio (Studio Q). He, for reasons he may not know himself, fell in love with an obscure mosque called Masjid Wazir Khan. This was one and half years ago. Now, the following is no exagerration, but for more than a year, every Sunday, he would head out to this mosque in inner-city Lahore to photograph it. He has photographed it from almost all angles. His wife rightly thinks he is crazy. (He probably is proud of that comment)
His photography is available online at Flickr and they have a thread going there called the Masjid Wazir Khan fever. A lot of people suddenly started photographing it. And after the inclusion of Masjid Wazir Khan in the film Khuda Kay Liyae, the popularity of the mosque quadrupled. According to him, the administration at MAsjid Wazir Khan now charge 1000 bucks (yes, three zeroes) to allow people to photograph!
