I'm due to travel to Pakistan on Saturday and find the uncertainty rather unnerving. like many pakistanis, I have become quite thick skinned in terms of dealing with difficulty. However, I fear that the cummulative effect of political, economic, and religious turmoil will overflow on a mass scale-in effect dragging us all into chaos. Having been broyght up in pakistan yet lived and worked in the west for the last 10 years I have a unique perspective on the mindset of educated 'moderates' and the plight of millions of poor pakistanis who continue to be victims of a system which only favours the rich ruling class. on my return this weekend I plan to write an account of the reality on the ground (in my home town, Lahore) also stir some 'constructive' debate on what it means to be a Pakistani in this globalised age.
