I want to see Faiz’s Lahore live again and not get buried under the rising tide of bigotry and religious zealousness. Faiz’s Lahore is my Father’s Lahore, were great personalities rubbed shoulders in the coffee houses, were great teachers taught in the institutions like Govt College. They taught love, tolerance, encouraged free thinking and challenged their students to discover and achieve more. Greats like Sufi Tabassum and Patras and the list goes on and on.

Now I see bright youth in institutions like LUMS being indoctrinated into screwed up philosophies, fed with flase hopes, false history and false dreams. I see no Faiz, no Faraz who can counter this ideological bombardment spurned on by misplaced loyalties.

I want to see Faiz’s Lahore back, I don’t want to see it become Qazi’s Lahore. I hate it most when the bigots who tormented him most during his life time use his poetry to further their cause.

And I don’t want to see Faiz just live in a museum but in people’s hearts.
