What is the point of an event that is rife with grief and mourning more than the so called 'fun and joy' it brings?? And what amazes me the most, is that not a single voice has been raised to ask why is the March 23 parade cancelled? This is an event that is an integral part of being Pakistani and instills and rejuvenates in us the national pride we are seeing gradually seep away. We owe a whole lot to this day and if it wasn't for March 23 you wouldn't have a damn roof-top to stand on to fly that dumb paper stuck to a string. So face up to the realities and voice your concern on real issues! Some cultural event is not who we are. Sitting around wearing green on all these TV channels and saying you're celebrating the day isn't much of an effort at all. The parade was like a stimulatory injection for us all I believe. It recharged your batteries and renewed hope. How deplorable that we don't even stand up for the real issues any longer! Oh yeah...ban a pointless event like Basant and these Lahoris end up having a coronary over it...pathetic!

This should decide it, whether it's a peoples issue or media's wag the dog. If the people are behind you, no power can stop anyone from entering anywhere. TV channels continuously hammering storm in a tea cup can do so much.

What history you are talking about. Not long ago Lahore fort was a notorious torture center run by FIA and our CIA where political opponents were ruthlessly tortured, nobody could write anything even in newspapers. Hundreds of thousands were murdered in East Pakistan, thousands lost their lives in other parts of the country. When Bhutto Senior tried to confront the people, he lost but where are the people here. They are not dumb to risk their lives for known thieves and exploiters, be they in govt or opposition. And why should they? And why should they follow lawyers? A common man who has experience of thanna / Katchery knows whats its like to deal with them and how paracsitic they can be.

Compared to the past this is only a response the unnecessary nuisance created by a few urged on by historical trouble mongers like Jamaat (who have always sided with anti democratic forces). This fits wonderfully with their broader agenda.

Common people of this country have learned their lesson, they are not idealistic fools.
