Since our ‘beloved’ president Mr. ~~10%~~ err Zardari is in town today till another week, the ongoing traffic miseries are certainly on the rise apart from the roads overclouded by the PPP flags and banners; Here are some tips to follow before you start your commute:

- Tune into Traffic Radio RASTA FM 88.8 often and listen to the traffic updates
- Call 24×7 Traffic Helpline 1915 before you leave your home
- Visit RASTA.PK to see the updates on traffic

P.S: My personal experience of 1915 helpline is very good when i called them early today for the first time to check on Mall Road status and the lady operator told me that there were some portions closed due to security but they have been restored 5 minutes before i called. And I had a nice and easy commute to downtown; As per the lady operator, you can also get help if your car breaks down.

Foggy weather – Live Temprature Updates

As a usual January every year, Lahore is currently under heavy foggy conditions; commuters & daily life is suffering quite badly with lots of flight canceled and motorway M2, M3 closed down every now and then – So there I was and an idea just kicked into my mind that there should be real time temperature updates for Lahoris from the city – so I managed to build this thing out today and we have live temperature updates going out to Twitter after every 30 minutes :) So if you are into twitter, please follow the tag #Lahore or Follow LahoreTemp to get updates after every 30 minutes. Even if you don’t use twitter, you can still logon to http://twitter.com/LahoreTemp and read the latest temperature from the beacon.

Rainbow in Lahore

well it must not be a big thing for many readers but we had a rainbow in the city after a full week of rain. I’m sure it was after a long long time that it was widely seen all across Lahore.

Express News has spotted it very well, it shows the second rainbow but kind of dim :) Enjoy the shot -

New District Ravi

Punjab Board of Revenue has suggested to make a new district by adding northern part of Lahore (Shahdra Town) and some portion of Sheikhupura named as Ravi District. There has been a mix reaction around due to some part of Lahore being shifted into Ravi and some people are also not happy by loosing the identity of being a proud Lahore.

LMB has created a poll to get an opinion about the same, please participate and let everyone hear you.

Remembering the one’s we lost in the line of duty

And we still remember you – In picture – a women paying tribute to the policemen died in Suicide Bomb attack at GPO Lahore in 2008. I’m glad we have a small memorial now at the location.

Google MAPS – Volunteers Needed

Please visit the site below and add the information for our beloved city Lahore i.e. Roads, Boulevards, Neighborhoods; Once all this information is processed and moderated, it will be included in Google Maps which would certainly help all of our community.

Lawyers Protest & Traffic

Though i full heartedly support the protest by lawyers as many of others do – but we often see these issues – yesterday an Ambulance was stuck in traffic jam at The Mall. The poor guys had to drive the vehicle on to the Pedestrian Walkway – he managed to get himself to a U-Turn around Alhamra Cultural complex and drive out.

Well i don’t blame any body – i know these protests are valid and necessary to bring peace and stability to our country and i know every Thursday lawyers protest and its not wise to take any route via Mall before 3 PM. I wonder why the driver of the ambulance didn’t knew this (perhaps out of city patient or something)

In a recent news, Traffic is not being blocked for Punjab Governor, Khalid Maqbool – and I’ve seen his car stuck couple of times in traffic as well. I wonder when every one will follow the same path….

In The Line Of Duty

And we haven’t still forgotten you all … killing innocents is not the answer for problems ! Without going into the discussion of removing the root causes of terrorism – My suggestion would be to make a memorial wall with the names of innocent people killed in this attack – so that terrorist know that how much we hate them and will honor each life they took from our society.

These pictures are very recent and still i see people coming around and pushing flowers for those who were killed in the line of duty.

Rainy Day – Cautions

And this goes to all of the Street Walkers – BEWARE from the fact that on a rainy day there’s high chance of some electric / telephony poles having current/”also known as earth” passing through.

I ran into a same incident on China Chowk at Shahr-e-Aiwan-e-Tijarat when a poor guy accidentally placed his hand on telephone drop pole to save himself from slippery footpath but got caught by a bad electric shock. Fortunately it was a telephony pole (which has far less energy than a electric pole) – Lahore Traffic Police stabilized the person and RESCUE 1122 was called on and he was rushed to Trauma Center in a conscious state. All good wishes & prayers for him.
