Our first National Bird Show 2006 was organized on September 24, 2006 at Avari Hotel, Lahore. Large number of families and fanciers attended this show from different parts of the country including Sialkot, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur and other parts of the country.

BSP management believes that these kinds of shows which are organized on international standards & rules so it will have long term effects for improving the image of Pakistan abroad.

I so want to go but, missing a  plan, sadly enough!

Recipe of the day —Chocolate Brownies:-

Ingridients:-

Butter 200 g
Brown sugar 350 g
eggs 4
Cocoa Powder 4 tbsp
flour 250 g
baking powder 3 1/2 tsp
walnuts (optional) 85 g
milk 50 ml
Procedure:-

1. Preheat oven to 180 Celsius. Grease and line pan 9” into 13” .
2. Sift flour once and twice with cocoa and baking powder.
3. Place butter and sugar in a bowl and beat till light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one by one and beat well.
5. Add flour and beat till well mixed.
6. Stir chopped walnuts if using.
7. Stir in milk.
8. Pour mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 40-45 minutes. Cool in the pan and then cool on a rack.

I’ve tried out this recipe five to six time and comes out just perfect each time.

Happy Ramadan!

Although i’m not a big supporter of “Hallmark holidays”. Most of them ‘are’ designed to sell greeting cards, but for mother’s and father’s you cannot get enough time to appreciate them. You don’t have to wait for Mother’s or Father’s day to show them you care but in my view there is nothing wrong in pampering him/her a little more than usual on these occasions.

Many celebrated the recent Mother’s day with a lot of high interest. A few weeks before Mother’s day it seemed like everyone was so looking forward to it. There were attractive billboards with Mother’s day messages. Media and radio stations organized promotions with attractive activities to honor mothers for their sacrifice but when it came to celebrate Father’s day.

It was quite disappointing to see that Father’s day was not given serious attention or significance as Mother’s day. Is it so or is it just Me?

If you want to buy her something, it doesn’t have to be fancy and expensive. It can be a hand-made special gift or a card, wonderful bouquet of flowers, just a little something to entertain her, to express your love and affection towards your mother. Or maybe you can throw a surprise dinner party for your mom (as i plan to, Insha Allah! :) )

First make a list of all the family members or friends you plan to invite and send invitations. Then finalize dinner/lunch/brunch menu, don’t forget to include her all time favorite dishes.

Later set a clean lovely table, place attractive fresh flowers, arrange food in a special festive way and enjoy a lovely meal. A great gift for mom, isn’t it?

In the end i just want to say, for all the work Mom does throughout the year she deserves to be pampered particularly on Mother’s Day!

Al-Hamra Art Council (AAC) has organised this festival in continuation of its annual activities related to highlight cultural values and festivities of the desert people. The festival will continue for a week with a series of performances in which artists, hailing from Cholistan desert, will show captivating artistic stints in the fields of drama, music, puppet show and folk dance.

Different stalls, enriched with typical Cholistani-cultural items ranging from dresses, silver-moulding jewelry, shawls, ivory-styled bright bangles, glossy clay studded with weeds and grass used as fodder of different animals, light footwear with classic designs to earthen-wares, are installed to make the modern-day city-bounded people of the provincial metropolis aware of the culture life of the Cholistani people.

The Lahorites, who are facing the brunt of the searing summer-season, will be welcomed by the richly-coloured clad folk dancers with riveting dhol beats on the grassy lawn of Al-hamara Art Council.

The word Cholistan is derived from “cholna”, which means moving. The Cholistanis have a semi-nomadic or an unsettled lifestyle, moving from one place to another in search of water and fodder for their animals. And this festival is meant to preserve their identity.

With only five days left, don’t forget to take your friends, family and children to Al-Hamra, so they can enjoy this wonderful, varicolored festival.

Happy Cholistan Festival!

Maybe the ceiling of the Ferozepur Road Underpass got scratched by heavy vehicles that exceeded the height limit prescribed for the tunnel or maybe it’s an act of transformers. Similarly, in Islamabad brand new vehicles on top of a truck got damaged when the truck driver tried to squeeze his vehicle through an underpass a couple of days ago.

What a shame!  So who would you blame?

Shadbagh police Supervisory Police Officer Shahid Mehmood said that the police had spotted two bombs on the road. He said that all shops were closed and traffic was diverted to other roads to avert any untoward situation and officials of the BDS were called in.
And that the BDS officials had defused one active bomb on the spot and declared the other one inactive. He said that the bombs weighed between 1.5 kg and 2 kg.

Bombs out in the open? On a road? Dear God! Where is this country headed? Will we ever find a way out of this deep crisis?

The main objective of celebrating this day is to educate and inspire people to adopt a healthier lifestyle to prevent and cure Tuberculosis, “The Forgotten Killer” and achieve a happier and more productive life. As Tuberculosis or TB is curable with six-to-nine months treatment. But unfortunately it has been reported in Punjab, Pakistan that TB patients donot complete their treatment >>> unaware of the fact that it may then develop drug-resistant strains that take up to two years to treat with second-line drugs, often with severe side-effects. Some resistant strains are untreatable with any existing antibiotics.

TB is an infectious disease which is caused by a bacteria whose scientific name is Mycobacterium tuberculosis… Know More And Here are a few types of TB.

According to a report one-third of the world’s population is currently infected with TB. About 60,000 TB patients die annually in Pakistan alone and another 2,00,000 are added to the number each year.

And now is the right time for all of us to unite and help WHO in spreading awareness how to prevent and cure this disease by organizing events, raising funds or by simply taking our prescribed medicine on time.

The celebrations across the globe will focus on financing for gender equality, calling for a change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in the history of their countries and communities. Apart from other countries in the world, in Pakistan women’s day was celebrated with zeal.  Events were planned through out Pakistan, activists joined a conference on eliminating discrimination and violence against women, a rally and even a women’s rock-climbing competition. Last year’s competition resulted in a great success and is again expected to attract many people.

In Lahore IWD was celebrated in  full spirit by the civil society. Seminars were held, there were conferences, walks, candle light vigils and symposiums throughout the day to commemorate the struggle of women all across the globe. Read more >>>

The Pakistan Peoples Party Women Wing (PPPWW) Sindh has marked International Women’s Day, March 8, in honour of the late Benazir Bhutto, as the only female leader of a political party and the first female Prime Minister of the Muslim world.
