Pakistan off to a solid start in Cricket World Cup 2011

Pakistan has made a decent start to their World Cup campaign by first defeating Kenya by 205 runs and then toppling the Cup favorites, Sri Lanka, by 11 runs. Considering what we the fans had to go through last year, these two wins come as welcome relieve for us.

However, going forward Pakistan think tank must make some changes in the team, or else we might not go too far in this tournament. As seen in the last game against Lanka, Pakistan is short of a specialist bowler at the moment. Wahab Riaz must be played in the team to strengthen the bowling. But the question is whom could he replace? Tough decisions will have to be taken, but I would drop Ahmed Shehzad and have Kamran Akmal open with Hafeez, followed by the usual batting order.

Also, I feel like that Razzaq is being wasted at number 8. He should come to play at least with ten overs to spare so he could make an impact that he is so capable of. Also, he shouldn’t be opening the bowling. New ball should be shared by Wahab and Shoaib Akhtar.

The mission of this team should not only be winning this World Cup, but also to restore some faith of its followers and the cricket fraternity in Pakistan cricket by playing some great-clean cricket. We can’t afford any more controversies and I sincerely hope that this team can maintain a positive image throughout this tournament. Go Team Pakistan!

Jazeera Airways adds Lahore to its destination map

Beginning May 12, 2010, Jazeera Aiways, Middle East regional carrier, is adding Lahore to its destination map. The airline will fly three times a week from Kuwait to Lahore. This is welcome news for Pakistan aviation industry, which in the past decade has seen bunch of international airlines terminating their operations in Pakistan due to deuterating security situation in the country. Let’s hope other major international airlines would also add back Pakistan to their destination maps soon.

Boom Boom disgrace!!!

In an another embarrassing episode of Pakistan cricket Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi, a veteran of 293 ODIs, was caught tampering the the ball in the last ODI against Australia on Sunday. This is the second time in his career that Afridi is charged with ball tampering, the first being in 2005. What’s even more astonishing is that Afridi seems to justify his horrendous act: “There is no team in the world that doesn’t tamper with the ball. My methods were wrong. I am embarrassed, I shouldn’t have done it. I just wanted to win us a game but this was the wrong way to do it,” he told Geo TV.

Imagine, what would happen if this guy is made captain of all 3 formats of the game? What kind of example are we setting for our youth? That it’s okay to cheat as long as you can win? The problem with Pakistan cricket is that similar to our politicians, we never held our cricketers accountable for their actions. We need to makes examples out of the Afridis and Akhtars of Pakistan who again and again tarnish the image of their country and then proudly make a comeback to the national side to become heroes once again.

I have had enough of these cheats and wish that for once, we can make the right call and shut all doors on them!

Are we witnessing end of Pakistan?

Without a doubt Pakistan is witnessing her worst crisis since the Bangladesh debacle. Most major cities are witnessing deadly attacks on a consistent basis and just today close to 100 innocent people lost their lives in Peshawar.

Where is our beloved country heading? Is the operation in Wazirstan going to solve our problems? I highly doubt. Who is our enemy? Is it the Taliban, India, the US, or we don’t need an enemy as WE are our own worst enemy.

Something has to give up here. For how long this bloodshed could go on? Just for how long? Have we not had enough? This month alone we have lost close to 300 lives!!! Isn’t it about time that we give up the comfort of our homes to do something for our country? But what can we do? At my end other than praying I know I am not doing anything. But prayers alone would not get us there….We need to back up our prayers with actions. Its about time my fellow citizens!

Oh, Meera Jee!!!

So our very own Meera Jee is back in the spotlight. A business man from Lahore, Atiqur Rahman, has claimed that Meera is his wife and she has stolen valuable goods from his house while he was out of the country. Apparently, Mr. Rahman has produced some credible evidences like pictures, marriage certificate, etc, which all according to Ms. Meera are fabricated.

She has sworn on her family that these are lies and she has never married Atiqur Rahman. Now, I don’t know who to believe in, but based on what I have seen lately on media, Meera Jee has certainly a lot of explanation to do. The drama continues….

Sharifs handover the Siberian tiger

If the reports are to be believe, the Sharifs have handed a Siberian tiger to the NWFP government after the public outcry. The younger Sharif, Sulieman, son of Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif imported the tiger from Canada and was to be kept in its own air-conditioned compound.

Faiz museum opens its doors to the public

Faiz museum, a project of Faiz Foundation Trust, was formally inaugurated on Sunday, March 1^st,in Model Town. The museum aims to promote the legendary poet’s work along with promoting his progressive and humanistic ideas.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz, born in Sialkot on February 13, 1911, was the first Asian poet to be awarded Lenin Peace Prize in 1962.

Sri Lanka humiliate Pakistan in 3rd ODI in Lahore

Sri Lanka crushed Pakistan by 234 runs in the 3rd and final ODI played Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on 24 January 2009. The Lankans batting first set a target of 309 runs and in reply our star studded team could only come up with 75 in 22.4 overs.

As a Pakistani cricket fan I feel like the we just can’t seem to have enough embarraement on and off the field. Maybe the state of our cricket team reflects the current state of our nation.

The Indian media did not waste much time to start pointing fingers at Pakistan for the recent attacks in Mumbai, India. My heart goes out to all the families who lost the loved ones, but I am just sick of this ‘typical’ blame game.

Taj Burning

Times of India is already reporting that Pakistani militants have been captured and that this whole incident could not have happened without support from across the border. Now I am sure that similar to 2001 Indian Parliament Attack, NADRA issued ID cards will be found in possession of all these terrorists and then it will be no brainer! The western media also jumping on the bandwagon is trying its best to portray this as another al-qaeda attack.

Maybe we should also borrow a page from our neighbor’s book and God forbid, next time when we have a terrorist attack in Pakistan, simply blame it on RAW and get on with our lives. In fact a lot of analysts believe that foreign elements have played part in the recent attacks in Pakistan, but unlike the Indian government, our government doesn’t have the balls to blame any external element.

It’s about that the Indian media stop its propaganda and do some soul searching as to the actual reasons behind these attacks. A good starting point maybe, the state of Muslims in India.

Security for CM, Shahbaz Sharif, to cost Rs200 million (US $2.5 Million)

Apparently, the Punjab government is considering spending more than Rs200 million of tax payers money on Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s security. The budgeted amount will be spend on obtaining high tech gadgets, sniff dogs, bla bla, so the provincial government could safeguard our ‘national’ asset.

What say you guys? I say if Mian shab doesn’t feel safe in the current environment then maybe he should let someone else take over his position. We are begging IMF for loan these days and so its mind boggling that provincial govt. is considering spending this hefty sum on security of one (or few) individuals. Common Mian shab, we know you are better than this!!!
