Wazir Khan Masjid – Forgotten Colours…
The only photo I was able to snap before the camera decided to shut down on me. ah, some tragedy…
Masjid Wazir Khan was an awe-inducing experience. It carries the majesty of a time where such structures and colours commanded power and stamped strength. The delicacy and the detail were still retained in its walls. I was told that the paints and colour pigments were made from real gems and other mineral stones: The Secret behind unfaded glory of the walls.
I think this art is unique – constructed of such material that itself is no less a work of art than the walls it paints. This art-in-art has the ability to survive beyond the lives of artisans that created it; and even when these colours dont retain the same meanings, they retain the artist in themselves. people will know how these people understood beauty, its husn and jamaal.
but the point that i pondered over: We don’t dream in these figures and colours any more, do we? they are not even a memory which haunts us…
