The Art of Pehalwani (Local Wrestling)

There was a time when being a Pehalwan was a way of life, an art and a passion. Thousands of people used to watch Rusum-i-Pakistan which was a very popular event in Lahore (just like a one day cricket game these days). You could easily find many Ukhara’s or Akhara’s (kinda small stadiums where traditional wrestlers exercise) in the city with Pehalwans doing their routine exercises but not anymore.     kabbadi is differnent sport… n i think its in better shape overall than pehalwani

    n that jhara vs hogan… i suspect it was kinda noora kushti :P .. but hey who cares..RAW and all others are noora too! if farangi’s can do it, we can’t we? :> :D

    oh great, jhara won! did jhara also wrestled with anoki of japan? as a wrestling buff I was an avid jhara fan in my childhood and heard that he was training for freestyle (noora kushti) at international circuit in his last days..

    wrestling is surely dying because it is no more a sport in people’s eyes
