Basant Night: Sophia

Atlast, the main selling-point of the show appeared on the stage. Sophia, who had come all the way from Mumbai, started off with ‘Assalam-a-Lakam, Lahore’ in a very strange accent and then she thanked the hosts for inviting her to such an event.

Sophia was as energetic as ever and it was really hard job to capture her still on camera as she kept on bouncing and dancing all the time.

The first track was “Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Legaya”, followed by some of her most popular numbers including “Jadugar Saiyan” & “Mera Babu Chail Chabeela”.

It was quite interesting to hear that she never wanted to be more than an actress until she listened to our very own Nazia Hassan. Sophia called Nazia her first inspiration to be a singer and beautifully sang “Disco Diwane” as a tribute.

All of the songs were sung live with sizzling performance by a dance troupe. “Salam Namaste”, “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu Hai”, & “Ek Bar Aaja Aaja”, surprisingly, were great to hear live in Sophia’s voice.

What came next were amusing hits from the past; “Mujhe Naulakha Pehna De Re”, and “Aaja Nach Le”.

Apart from such a great performance, she wasn’t real good at singing Sukhbir’s Bhangra number “Ishk tera Tarpave”.

“Jave Jave Meray Dholna” was followed by an unusual act by an Indian performer on “Dama Dum Mast Qalandar”.

At very climax, the show ended with a sizzling performance on our favorite Ash, Big B, Bishek number; “Kajra Re”
