‘PHA promoting traditional festivals’

LAHORE: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) is trying to promote the traditional festivals of Lahore through its spring festival 2006, said Mrs Robina Khalid, the wife of Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, at the cut flower competition at Jillani Park, formerly known as Race Course Park, on Saturday.

“All PHA programmes play an important role in educating people, especially women, in maintaining their houses,” she said, adding that the implementation of PHA model plans would bring positive results. “Apart from home economics, chapters about flower work should also be included in the curriculum,” said Mrs Rubina. Besides other decorations, houses could also be maintained with flowers, she said, adding that PHA should be appreciated for maintaining Lahore’s beauty.

About 200 girls from 35 colleges participated in the competition, said Chaudhry Javed Shaida, the deputy director of PHA public relations. He said the students had shown fabulous cut flower work, which made it harder for the judges to decide the first three prizes in the two categories ‘fresh and dry’.
