A sample; Kurian Lahore Diyan by Abrar-ul-Haq

Oh man, I just love Abrar! I am from Karachi and don’t know a single Panjabi word but just love the way he sings and the tune of his dhamakey-daar songs..

I salute Abrar-ul-Haque for setting a trend for Punjabi folk-lore style lyrics. Now a huge crop of mushroom singers are busy copying (though distastefully in majority of cases) his style and lyrical diction.

The main crust of Abrar’s break-through song “Billu” comes from “Mirza Sahibaan”

    >>Panj sat maran gawandana tey rehndiyan noon >>>>taap charhey.

    >>Gallian ho Jaan Sunjian tey wich Mirza yaar >>phirey.

It was basically the “power” of Punjabi folklore behind “Billu”, which made it a huge success.

I bet a huge majority of the song-fans are not aware of this fact but still are crazy about it, which substantiates the power and richness of Punjabi culture and its classical literature.

I am not an avid listener of Abrar’s music, I must admit, but still I adore him and respect him a lot for his very successful and commendable efforts at alleviating the deep rooted “inferiority complex” that we the Punjabis had for our language and culture for decades.

I agree, the substance of rich Punjabi folklore makes Abrar’s songs something extraordinary.

I doubt if majority of us so called Punjabis knew about ‘Kachhehri culture’ before listening to Jutt.
