…feeling sorry for karachi!

As every one is aware of the current situation in our brother city “Karachi”, everyone is in despair, feeling helpless, unable to do anything for his country; for his city, for anyone and even unable to do anything (at least) to save himself.

There’s mourning every where especially in Karachi. Everyone is talking about it but actually no one has the courage to speak up for his country, for his city or at least for himself.

No one is able to find the solution or I must say; no one lets to find the solution.

But what the problems and solutions are, the hurting thing is that every time it is Karachi; who has to pay for it. Now the question arises “WHY?”

Is that because it’s the biggest city or it is the financial hub or it is the home of some notoriously innocent people…?

Does it shows, how “weaker” our government is or does it shows how “powerful” our government is..?

Whatever the problem is; the solution is needed urgently.

On our part, we Lahoris pay tribute to you people (karachi’ites), you are really strong and may Allah give you more strength and solve all your problems. (Aameen!)

warddi ki sidaarat mein,

khambon ki wizaarat mein,

chaar soo andhera hai,

“roshniyon ke sheher” mein,

khauf ka baseraa hai…!

Live long Karachi!
Lahore is with you..!

I thank you on behalf of Karachiites. And you asked a very valid question:

Does it shows, how “weaker” our government is or does it shows how “powerful” our government is..?

Frannkly speaking I am confused and can’t answer at all.

only one question from anyone who can and shud reply.
where was the police and Rangers on 12th may 2007, and why were they not mobilized timely.

  4. Raza (unregistered) on May 14th, 2007 @ 3:21 pm

A very valid question Mahie, seems to point that they had orders not to interfere and we all know who’s in government there.

  5. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 12:53 am

the MQM govt took the weapons away from most of the police so that they may not be able to stop the terrorists…the police was ordered not to intervene!

    busharraf should be hanged!!

    mAN:

Habibee…do u need anymore proof that Talat’s life is in danger? his work place was under direct attack for 5 -6 hours mostly because of his reporting live events in khi that day!:)

  14. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 7:20 pm

    karachi is hostage to terrorists!

by the way iam an ex-uetian from karachi. nowadays living in UAE!

so i know what MQM is capable of.

I can understand that the sind police was under the control of the MQM govt so it did not act.

but what i fail to understand is why the Rangers, under federal control, (led by PAK ARMY officers)did not act??

iam can not believe that they heeded MQM;’s call notto intervene!!

the receive direct orders from ARMY top brass!!!!!

so the massacre in karachi was state sponcered, that is beyond doubt.

it makes me soooo angry now to c the President, PM,…ETC expressing surprise over the events:))

  15. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 7:27 pm

    just imagine this;

most of the victems were killed on sharah e faisal, betw the airport entrance and a few hundred meters further up the road near malir……

in the middle of the battle field was the Rangers headquaters for that area and no one came out to stop it.!!

what do u call it! the rangers were party to the massacre or the pak army officers were too scared to comeout and help the innocent people being killed right infront of their gates!!!!

massacres and roits have happened in karachi b4 ….but this is the first time that the state is involved directly in the killings!!

one more thing, though i was born in karachi and have lived there most of my life, my family belong to punjab. i wanted to clear this thing so iam not accused of bias against the our army led by pussies!

just check out the following link:

    hey man..
i know that he was under attack but my purpose of asking was to confirm that number..
    basically..
Talat Hussain was not under attacked but the channel, AAJ TV was under attacked..
here we are talking that Talat Hussain is under threat..
    it can be a hoax…
    (i said “can be”)

    so just for confirmation..

  17. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 7:42 pm

    MAN:

if you take Talat Hussain out of Aaj TV, Then i don’t think much would be left interms of reporting events like 12th May.

by the way I can’t get Aaj TV here in UAE. GEO, Indus Vision, PTV World, ARY Digital are the only pak channels i can c here. but i saw reports about that event of on other networks!

  18. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 7:49 pm

    MAN;

“here we are talking that Talat Hussain is under threat..
    it can be a hoax…
    (i said “can be”)”

Habibe,w e don’t need to c Talats body, god forbid, to believe he is under threat.

if you are from lahore then u have no idea what MQM can do. 3 people were killed on the 12th of May when an EDHI Amb. was stopped and driver and two people carrying wounded to hospital were killed.!!

have u ever heard even israelis doing this???

one of the passengers in the Edhi amb was carrying his brother who was shot by MQM to the hospital, he was also killed. he was a young man with a 2.5 year old kid and another newborn!

  20. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 7:58 pm

just to add..the injured man was shot again but somehow survived!

  21. man! (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 8:10 pm

    @ UETIAN:

    yup..
    I m from lahore…
and yes you r right that I’ve no idea about MQM..
actually, I just know two people of MQM, i.e, Altaf Hussain, always speaking aggressively on the ‘Phone’ direct from London..
and the one present in the government having small beard…

but what u r telling is really sad to know for me..
I always believe that we have the dirtiest type of politics in Pakistan..
that’s why I don’t take interest in the politics..
I also mentioned it in my 1st post.

    here: http://lahore.metblogs.com/archives/2007/04/a_journey_of_ho_2.phtml

what I tried to show in this post was that what I think about the incident and wanted to show my concer over the issue and also to show the Karachiites, the sympathy we Lahoris have for them.

but now O m feeling more concerned about Karachi and off course for my country..

    may Allah bless us..!

n especially about that injured u told..
    that really an inhuman act..
I’ll not say him a Muslim or I must say that the attacker is not a human..

    MAN:

it’s just plain trajic what is happening in karachi.

but u did not say anything about the amry controlled rangers having army officers and just seeing people being killed infront of them!

the problem with punjabis (incld me)is that we think the army is a sacred cow……well cows need to be slaughtered sometimes!

can u imagine this happening in the streets of lahore with the police and rangers helping ruling party workers killing dozens of opposition supporters and to top it all nothing happens to the repsonsible people who ordered the police/rangers not to intervene!!!!

  23. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 8:26 pm

the main insult is the PM Shortcut Aziz calling Altaf in London and condoling the deaths of his terrorists!!! can anyone believe it!??

how can they get away with murder in broad daylight!????

Busharraf said that after the 12th may incedent the protests against him should stop…..if u read betw the lines it looked like a threat that if the protests don’t stop then more incidents like this would happen!

so it was meant a warning to his opponenst all along.

for many days b4 the 12th of may everyone was warning MQM counter rally would lead to a blood bath in khi but no one from govt sis anything to stop the MQM!

This was planned. it was not something that just happened!

  24. UETIAN_94 (unregistered) on May 15th, 2007 @ 8:32 pm

by the way most of the killed people claimed by the MQM it’s workers are from punjab/kashmir/nwfp…..the MQM is insistingthey were it’s workers!! can anyone believe it???

@Everyone: I’ve taken notice of the concern regarding mention of x’s Mobile No. and the comment has been edited.

A person’s personal contact should never be shared like this even if it is done in good intention. I agree with Red_Munk!!, that if you want to show solidarity, you can contact the TV Channel instead of becoming a nuisance for the person himself.

@Man!: That’s the spirit dude! The one and only good thing about emergencies is that they bring us together and make us think like a single family.

We are deeply moved by the events that took place in Karachi and now by the bomb blast in Peshawar.

May the deceased souls rest in peace. Amen!

    hey “Kaptaan”..
    thnx for the compliments..
    n for the editing..

but what if we get together in the happy moments as well..

Threatening media personnel is not an aberration for MQM. It is a persistence posture of intimidation evident for the past five years that MQM is a coalition partner in Sind province and at the centre.

One example is Ban on The STAR. Published by the DAWN Group of Newspapers, the STAR, prior to suspending publication, in 2006, was Karachi’s leading evening newspaper.

In February 2005, the MQM took exception to a story in the paper that raised questions about the death in custody of a suspect. Alleging defamation, the MQM instituted criminal proceedings against the STAR, despite the fact that lawyers acting on behalf of the STAR, offered as per the policy of the DAWN Group to
publish their version of the said impugned article. The Court proceedings are still
    subjudice.

The efforts to intimidate the STAR peaked when the newspaper raises issues regarding the death in police custody of a suspect. The report is made the basis of criminal proceedings against the newspaper under the Defamation Ordinance 2002, and the
    matter is still subjudice.

How journalists are in effect paralyzed from performing their tasks is clear from the fact that under the Defamation Ordinance, the presence of all cited persons is required at every court hearing. They must also seek the court’s permission every time they leave the city or the country; the reporter involved is restrained from
travelling on assignment; this constitutes harassment even before the verdict of
whether defamation actually took place or not has been given.

See a summary of similar heavy-handed actions meted out by MQM to influence media by coercion:
