‘The Contrast’

Ever wondered, what happened to the Lahore Government’s old fire service department…?

After the introduction of the ‘Rescue 1122‘, the emergency service which was introduced in Lahore and then later on to the other five cities of the Punjab Province, most of the people forgot about the old fire service department and even other ambulances including (to some extent) the very old, renowned and dedicated free ambulance service ‘Edhi 115‘.

The old fire service department is alive… even I didn’t know the fact until I saw them in action on Thursday; extinguishing fire in a house in Ahmad Block, New Garden Town.

Many things have changed in the new service (Rescue 1122). The main differences are the access to the service, the efficiency, the equipment, the dedication, the techniques, the experience and a lot more… but there are some similarities like the goals/missions and objectives.

But what about the physical difference…?

See by yourself!

Know some more differences…?

    @ Hassan:

Actually, if u can, read my earlier post A house on fire! (http://lahore.metblogs.com/archives/2007/07/a_house_on_fire.phtml) to have a sense of the service in action.

moreover, today on 15 July, 2007 GEO News aired a paid documentry of Khojj on the idea behind the introduction of Rescue 1122 service, its working, its organization, its equipment and live demonstrations.
    It was quite informative..

try to keep up with GEO NEWS, I hope they’ll air it again..

    a part from that..
I m thinking on having a complete feature on it..
    may be in near future..

    ask for more!
    :)

Hello guys- I know this has nothing to do with this blog, but I am visiting Lahore at the end of the month and after reading all the blogs about what is happening in Pakistan, makes me very nervous. Is it safe to travel and stay in Pakistan now a days? Somebody please respond…

@FROM NY: Although the political situation of Pakistan is not less than turning into a turmoil, still, it is perfectly safe to travel and stay in Lahore.

Generally, it is recommended to stay at a reliable place, a good hotel or a relative’s house and remain vigile while travelling on the streets.

Rest, is totally fine here. Despite all the situation here, Lahore remains the safest big city in Pakistan. So, just chill out and enjoy your visit to Lovely Lahore ;)
