Reclaiming Your Summer Night (Lahore Style)

After a month or so of fleeing the humidity outside with air conditioners, I stepped out in my lawn last night to experience the summer night.

Sporadic bouts of rain over the past week had cooled down the temperature considerably, sweetening the air with the fragrance of drenched ‘motia’ and ‘raat ki rani’ plants. Grass beneath my feet smushed softly, still wet from the showers, while the night sky seemed clear & inviting for astronomical pursuits.

Wish I had taken the initiative earlier and spent more ’07 summer evenings outside, seeing that it is August now.

It is not too late though. Why don’t you pull out the trusty plastic lawn chairs, or your pool-side loungers, start up the stand-alone fan, tune your radio, dim the lights, and reclaim your summer nights in Lahore?

Did you guys notice the stary sky of Lahore after those showers, without a single spot of pollution layer…the sky becomes so bright and you can see lots of stars than in usual day.

One of my islamabadi friends always make it a point that Lahore does not have clear, stary nights coz of pollution :(
