Lahore & Independence

It is 14th August.
Take out them bikes, strip them of mud guards and side covers, paint yourself green and ride the Mall like you plan to die right that instant.

Make a plan as to how you can improve as a Human Being, how you can actually contribute to the society, your neighborhood, your city, your country and your nation. Remember, if you are reading this, you probably have an internet connection, a computer and read/speak English; in other words, you belong to a very small percentage of have’s in this society of ours. Play your part well.

You can paint yourself green and make a plan at the same time.
So, what’s you plan?

My plan is not to engage in plan 1. That counts as contribution to society right?

This 14th August I just thought of some good times when Independence Day celebrations used to be more soulful. Or, maybe now we have grown up enough to understand the problems faced by our country…

You are right Hasan, we have grown up enough :)

Btw, every year on this day, i think of what i have done for my country in the last year and make new plans.

:) i spent the independence day at office, working from 10:30 am till just now, i.e. 3:00 am midnight…

during the day, i thought of what i can do for the country and what the country can do for me (the love should always be mutual :)… more specifically thought about the underpreviliged people who can gain so much from our very little effort… small instances of charity, a little bit of time, can actually change lives…

Overall i think every day is independence day, as long as we “feel” independent and feel the responsibility that comes with it. Its like the birthdays… you can either feel “alive” every single day and live your life to the fullest, or you can keep living a dull, stressful life day after day and pretend to be somewhat happy on your birthday… if you are alive from within, then every day is your birthday.

btw: all sms’s i received during the day were 14 august jokes… mostly new. So i believe our sense of humour (specially that of our fellow lahories) is very much live and kicking :)

Hasan / P.S. Its all upto the youth who have “grown up enough” to do something about the society :)
