Alif Laila

Alif Laila is a children’s library situated in a beautiful small park near Punjab Tikka House, in Main Market.

They are a project of Save the Children, UK. They go to different schools to issue books and there is minimal membership fee.

Trend of joining a library and reading books is becoming extinct especially in the presence of Cartoon Netwok.

Take kids in your family to the library and hopefully you will find out our version of Harry Potter, Daastan-E-Ameer Hamza (?).

Thanks for posting about Alif Laila Library. I was a member of the library in 80s. The library used to close at 5 PM or 6 PM everyday. I was so fond of visiting the place that often I forced my father to take me there, once he returned from his office (we lived in Gulberg too). We often reached there just a few minutes before they closed. That, just in time feeling was one of the happiest and most satisfying feeling I ever had, or a 10 years old boy could have. I remember borrowing many children books, and some for older kids too e.g. Naseem Hijazi’s history novels. The library was located in an old red double-decker bus in a park behind main market, Gulberg. I appreciate their work and would like to visit when I go back to Pakistan inshallah. Sweet childhood memories! You have taken me back to my younger years.
