Summer (Bash) Heat is StIlL On

I hope you guys are quite familiar with JbNJaws’ Summer Bash by now, which was one of the most talked about thing happened to Lahore. This weekend, I found “Lambay” (a Pushto song by Sajid and Zeeshan) lyrics in the junkyard in Dawn and fourth day of Summer Bash flashed back, when Sajid and Zeeshan performed.

But first you should go through this translation of “Lambay”, means flames:

Maa chay darta way, wa saaqi zama;
When I told you, oh my source of passion/desire/peace;
Pa zra may ma leeka, afssanay zama;
Don’t write/imprint stories of me on my heart;
Pa stargo may ta, ao laas may pa
dozakh baam;
My vision only entails you, though my hand is resting on the edge of hell;
Pa wajood may yao orbal, ao janati may armaan.
As my body (and mind) are engulfed in flames, my hopes are of seeking heaven.

Ao lambay, ao lambay shuma za sta pa deedan.
Flames, the sight of you burns me up in flames.
Ao lambay may shwal armaan;
As my hopes are up in flames;

Da tor asman stori laka pa sahar she qurban;
The stars of a black night sacrifice themselves for the morning light;
Om pa day lara rawan, ao dar orasayduma janan;
And following the same path, I’m about to reach you;

The Great Audience: Where is LMB team??? :)

I must share a few glimpses of that evening, Zzing the musical band of two, namely Immad Zaffer and Mohammad Sibti was served as starter followed by Zau and NCBA Mime, which was absolutely stunning and tastefully directed with Lahoree essence. Sajid and Zeeshan, very famous Peshawar-based group and Karachi-based Blackfish, the improvisational comedy troupe, were the main course, which the audience simply adored.

There was a big crowd that day, I remember and I should give due credit to Sajid and Zeshan and Blackfish for that. Zzing and Zau (sounds like twins..lol), the musical groups, provided the audience a chance to warm up with their performances, the people who were expecting Blackfish to be staged first got quite tensed, but the Mime made their worries gush away with all the dhol beats and expedited the energy flow to next level. Zeeshan and Sajid came on the stage then, and for sure “unn ke game portable DAT recorder nay utha dee”, which doted the evening with great great music, and Sajid sang very well, but he did not performed Lambay, which I was waiting for the most. Their best number to me is King of Self, a very unique concept, which was one of the six songs they performed. Their first performance in Lahore was in LUMS and second for the Summer Bash, Zeeshan told us while introducing them. You know and I know, they simply rock and ultimately that night everyone was attuned with the rhythm. The crowd was amazing and reacting louder and louder after each musical dose and no one was ready to stop.

In the end, Blackfish performed and I do not have words to explain those moments, let me simply tell you that when I came out of Sozo World, all the facial muscles were quite sore because they were being stretched so enormously to the max soooo many times, which only happens occasionally, I am talking about “laughing my heart out”, they were hilarious. Sami Shah, Danish Ali and Saad Haroon were greatly applauded, which they deserved not only for being extremely witty representing contemporary style of modern age theatre but also for their quality of being interactive with the audience. Their extempore was the show stealer.

Blackfish concluded the fourth day of Summer Bash around 1 AM. I think our society needs a lot of treatments like these to forget our worries for a little while and just have some fun and laugh to max.
