Breaking News: News TV Channels Off-Aired

It’s 5:12 PM PKST and while Geo/Aaj TV & ARY were covering the imposition of Emergency, Worldcall the largest operator in Lahore has off-aired all sort of News Channels.

What I herd at Geo : the anchor at all news channels in an breaking news bulletin said, they are now confirming that Govt. is imposing the Emergency while also sanctioning some news things on Media and that’s when the blackout has started.

Confirmed: It’s now confirmed that Emergency has been imposed on country. Just got words from my family in Faisalabad. They are still getting the transmition.

Yup, confirmed. I’m in Lahore, the Internet’s still working. Geo.tv’s headlines show that a high-level meeting’s taking place in Islamabad, amid high security.

I’ve got a web-based feed reader(netvibes.com) setup to aggregate feeds from a ton of sources, from daily times to dawn, nytimes, reuters, google news, etc. From all those sources, this blog seems to be the first to report the imposition of a state of emergency.

It’s not just the Worldcall subscribers, rather, all cable operations have turned these channels off-air… :|

It might again be some sort of a restriction on media-freedom or perhaps, God forbid, much more serious act like imposition of emergency in the country.

It is confirmed, I just got a call from my parents in the Middle East that emergency has been declared in Pakistan (Talat Hussain -Aaj TV Live report), contacted a few more friends who are active in politics and they have confirmed it too. The regional HQ of JI/PML-N have been cordoned off by Rangers/Police. PEMRA has crossed the frequencies in order to completely block the transmissions. More updates soon.

Net is also at a snail’s pace

Suprisingly, it was 5:12 PM in Karachi when World Call pulled the plug on all local channels here in Karachi as well. I gues they have a nice network going along.
