Jemima fears for Imran

According to the Daily Mail, Jemima Khan, a British socialite and former wife of Imran Khan, while writing in the Evening Standard newspaper, has shown her concern for Imran’s safety.

She writes:

“The police ransacked his house and roughed up his family. He managed to escape just before they returned with an arrest warrant to cart him off to Kot Lakpat jail. He is now in hiding along with most of his party and thousands of others who fear reprisals for criticising the government.”

Jemima also added her latest views on the current situation in Pakistan:

“General Musharraf has a problem with extremism. His answer?

First, arrest all the progressive, secular-minded people Pakistan has to offer including the Chief Justice, the President of the Supreme Court Bar, two former presidents, more than 3,000 lawyers, journalists, human rights activists and politicians, including my ex-husband.

Second, in the words of Pakistan’s leading human rights lawyer Asma Jehangir: ‘Offer negotiations and ceasefires to the terrorists.’ “

“It’s more revealing to look at who is not in jail than who is, notably Benazir Bhutto, who has not been arrested. In turn she has not called on her supporters to take to the streets in protest. The rumour in Islamabad is that she is hoping she will be invited to head a caretaker government.”

“President Musharraf claims to want to defend Pakistan against Islamic extremism. But he needs the extremists to guarantee his support from the West and to stay in power, his real goal.

The West’s greatest fear has always been that, left to itself, the country would fall into the hands of Islamic extremists. But judging by history, the most likely outcome of a free and fair election in Pakistan would be a secular, democratic government. Backing General Musharraf on the basis of him being the only alternative to the extremists could turn out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

I love Imran but he needs to be quite for sometime and let the dust settle.

but history shows going to jail only helps your political career. he is a good humanitarian and Pakistan needs him
