I never supported PPP…

Or Benazir Bhutto, or ANY Bhutto apart from Fatima to the extent of reading her column like a leech every Sunday just because I like the way she writes.

Murder, Suicide bombing, sniper shooting as some suspect could be the doing of none other than the ISI as the impeccable bull’s eye tells on it. Whatever it was, it took her life away. It swept away the mother of three kids, whose loss is unmatched by that of the world put together.

Really, is this about the assassination at all? Whether you are pro Bhutto/ PPP or against them, you have to agree with the fact that this party has ALWAYS upheld democracy and the real implementation of it in the country.
This is an attempt to stifle democracy and promotion of what we call “Sikha Shahi”. This is turning into a nightmare by the minute.
What is democracy? A polite way to say “mind your own business” and “live & let live” !
“A government of the people for the people by the people”
Whether we like it or not, admit it or look away, there were MILLIONS of Pakistanis that supported and worshipped her. Delusional or “cuckoo” as termed by some, guess what? these are the people who have the right to decide. these are Pakistanis and no one has the right to try to change their mind by force or deprive them of their leaders. This ranges from exiling politicians to assassinating them.
Corruption is only complicating the otherwise straight forward processes to twist the results in one’s own interest, one virtue we’re filthy rich with.
I recite these holy verses not just for the one who’s no more, but for my country. Go through the translation and see if you agree with me or not.
“Inna lillah e wa inna ilayhi rajeoon”
Translation:”Verily we belong to Allah, and to Allah we return.”

Hold on…

Update: Effectively, everything is closed for now. We have a Shell Select store next to our house and that was the last store/shop within the Cantt area to finally close down. The Select Store (normally open 24 hours) was flooded with people from all across the area probably. The shops are closing mainly because of fear of retaliation, which is already taking hold in many areas of Lahore.

Stay at home…

Or just stay wherever you are. The situation may get worse outside with people burning anything they come up with. Most of the shopping areas (Fortress + MM ALAM confirmed) are closing down fast due to fear of violent protests. Please, for the sake of your loved ones, stay at home or wherever you are safe and pray.
Also, try avoiding going to work/school come tomorrow to see if the situation has calmed down.

Pray and God bless us all…

Update: Habib Bank at Bank Square Market in Model Town is the latest victim of mob mentality and violent reaction to Benazir’s murder.

hat-tip to LMB Cao’n Hassan Mubaarik for the request to post this advisory.

The Bigger Tragedy

‘They’ tried it when she landed. ‘They’ got the desired affect but seemingly missed. This time around, not only did ‘they’ bombed the area but opened fire as well. The details are not available as to how the firing took place ‘after’ the 4kg explosive went off, but one thing is now a certainty: the first Muslim lady prime minister of the World and twice prime minister of Pakistan is dead.

Every so often, we hear about ‘the moment when everything changes for all times to come’. Right now, it is that moment.

I personally have never supported Ms Benazir and her party (the PPP). But this, by all means, goes beyond the immediate politics of pretty much everything. It goes without saying that no one, and I mean no one — even for a moment — deserves to go this way, to die in such an unnatural manner and for such obnoxiously stupid reasons. Fate, as we already should know, is not without a sense of irony; Benazir has died (primarily) due to gunfire wounds while leaving a political gathering at Liaquat Gardens; Liaquat Gardens is not only named after, but is also the same place where the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Khan Liaquat Ali Khan was murdered with a bullet.

On the evening of 27th December 2007, Ms Benazir Bhutto died due to injuries sustained in a suicide bomb attack on her life. I feel like repeating this to actually believe it. I feel that almost everything within the Pakistani political makeup will change. There is already incident reports of people ransacking offices of political officials, of protestors burning vehicles and the subsequent sense of fear that things will turn for the worse. I, unfortunately, also feel that the same unjust rule, the same all-consuming lust for power, the same indifference that seems to be root cause of everything evil and the same ‘wheeling and dealing’ associated with the politicians of today will continue unabated.
This death, this tragic, tragic incident will provide more intrigue and more ‘play’ to what is already happening in the echelons of power in this country. When Liaquat Ali Khan was murdered, General Ayub writes in his autobiography, most of the politicians of the time were immediately looking for ways to fully exploit the vacuum obviously created by a deceased Prime Minister. I do not see why this tragedy will be any different. And that in itself, is a bigger tragedy.

Breaking news

Benazir Bhutto, the daughter of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the PPP leader has expired in a suicide bomb blast in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi. According to the source, she may have been hurt in the neck and was immediately taken to the General Hospital Rawalpindi. In the suicide bomb blast 20 people have been killed and 42 casualties have been reported, according to Aaj TV.
